Draft Kim Smith for Rochester City Council

Rochester City Council

We congratulate Jackie Ortiz on being elected as Monroe County Board of Elections Commissioner!

With a seat now open on Council, we urge our local representatives to consider appointing Kim Smith to Rochester City Council. Kim is a dedicated community leader who came just 141 votes shy of accomplishing a major upset in the 61st State Senate District.

As a long-time community servant with the Monroe County Department of Health and VOCAL-NY, Kim has fought tirelessly for health care for all, housing justice, ending mass incarceration, and expanding substance use programs.

In a gerrymandered district encompassing three counties (with 60% of voters in Erie County), Kim won the most votes in both Monroe and Genesee County running a positive, progressive, and issues-oriented campaign.

Kim is a unifier and bridge builder. She's supported by grassroots groups, Democratic leaders, and countless community members.

Dear Councilmember,

We urge you to consider appointing Kim Smith to Rochester City Council. Kim would be a powerful advocate for Rochester residents, and her extensive background in health and housing advocacy make her a vital voice during this pandemic. She has the trust of grassroots and community leaders and would be the only LGBTQ+ member of Council. Thank you for your careful consideration.
